It's always surprising/interesting/exciting to Google myself and see where my stories, or parts of them, have ended up.

As a writer, unless you get regular feedback from people, you can begin to feel like you're writing for no one. So it's extremely validating to see the unlikely places your writing ends up and find out that people are actually paying attention:

What!!!!!

Spring Ahead...

Posted by Lauren Carter on March 29, 2010 at 2:33 PM Comments comments (0)

Been busy as usual! The highlights include:

-reviewed shows by Chris Daughtry, Carrie Underwood, Alicia Keys, Black Eyed Peas/Ludacris and Jay-Z!

-interviewed Robin Thicke and Ludacris

-reviewed new CDs from Usher, Erykah Badu, Justin Bieber and Ludacris

...and that's the very brief recap.

In the near future I've got concert reviews of Rick Ross with local artists Masspike Miles and Millyz, a Drake show at the end of April, and lots more CD reviews and interviews.

I'm also scheduled to be a judge for the Dream Big Artist Showcase Auditions in Boston on May 1. The showcase is basically a star search for Grammy award-winning singer/producer Mario Winans to find a new artist to sign to his imprint. The auditions are in 11 major cities, and I will be judging at the Boston auditions!!

Finally, my review of Daughtry's show was referenced by USA Today's "American Idol" blog. Pretty exciting!

More updates to come...until next time, peace!

Where to begin!

Over the past few months I've reviewed several concerts ranging from Etta James to Rock the Bells.

In June I was a guest on WNYC's music talk show "Soundcheck" to discuss hot summer songs.

I have recently interviewed a number of music artists including Demi Lovato, Drake Bell, Anoop Desai of "American Idol," David Archuleta, Jordin Sparks and last but not least, legendary rapper Nas, an amazing experience as he is one of my rap idols and doesn't do many interviews. That story was published in the Boston Herald and referenced by XXL Magazine's website as well as HipHopDX.com and a number of other rap sites.

And lastly, a portion of my Demi Lovato concert review was included in her Hollywood Records bio!

11/3 Update

Let's see. Along with my Pats Playlist, Cheap Thrills column, Monster Jam review (Lil Wayne was a no-show and the story blew up on the Internet), CD reviews and varied other stories, I published my first story on BlackPower.com.

Look out for an Usher interview story and concert review this week along with more blogs, reviews, articles and BlackPower stories. Until next time, peace!

10/23 Update

As usual it's been a busy few weeks, hence the lack of updates. At any rate, in addition to doing some PR work for a local band, I've had my hands full with CD reviews, music features, concert reviews (including one upcoming for Monster Jam starring Lil Wayne and Jay-Z aka The Carters -- no relation to me, however) more Patriots stories and my regulars -- Pats Playlist and the biweekly Cheap Weekend Thrills column. Until next time...Peace!

10/4 Update

Just when you thought it couldn't get any busier....check the portfolio page for a bunch of new stories including several CD reviews, a concert review, a feature on Janet Jackson, my Pats Playlist article and a couple of local school features.

This coming week there will be stories galore, including more CD reviews, a review of Maxwell's live show, a couple of rapper features, my Pats Playlist on Brandon Meriweather and a reprisal of my biweekly Cheap Thrills column for the Herald.

Coming soon - a feature on the label and production team behind the posthumous solo project from Left Eye  (of TLC fame). I'm also working on a story for Black Power magazine about the role of rap music in the upcoming election. And look out for Pats Playlists from Rodney Harrison, Ellis Hobbs, Deltha O'Neal and Kevin Faulk in the coming weeks.

Until next time, peace!

9/23 Update

Another busy week! With the Hall at Patriot Place opening and a Hall of Fame weekend planned, I did a series of stories on that along with my Patriots Playlist, a couple of concert and CD reviews, town news stories, my Janet Jackson advance and a column on fan reaction to the Patriots' loss to the Dolphins.

This week I will have more CD reviews, a review of Randy Jackson's "America's Best Dance Crew," and my Reks advance. I will also be working on scoring interviews with LL Cool J and Common (though not at the same time) and doing a story about a local label producing the majority of the new Left Eye posthumous album.

Until next time, peace!

9/12 Update

Posted by Lauren Carter on September 12, 2008 at 11:30 AM Comments comments (0)
This has been a busy week...My assignments included a story on fan reaction to losing New England Patriots star quarterback Tom Brady, a couple of town news stories, a Pats Playlist feature on lineback Adalius Thomas, CD reviews of LL Cool J, Ne-Yo and Nelly, and coverage of the Patriots cheerleaders' 2009 calendar unveiling last night -- hardly the most mentally stimulating event ever, but it did highlight fan devotion to the cause.

Later today I'll be interviewing Janet Jackson and this weekend I'll be working on my Reks feature, a short piece on a Boston nightclub, a few other CD reviews and a story about life without Brady.

Next weekend I'll be reviewing the Alanis Morissette show in Boston, among other things.

More to come; stay tuned!

So the site has undergone a major overhaul -- major according to me, at least -- with a new design, some reworked content and, yes, a picture! I'll also be formatting my portfolio differently to include an excerpt of the article, the publication it appeared in and the date it appeared.

Among the new projects I'm working on is a press release for a startup music label and a series of articles for the Boston Herald about music tastes among the New England Patriots. I'll feature a different player each week and find out what type of music they grew up on, what they're listening to now, and how music factors into their preparation.

More news to come; for now, thanks for reading!
