Lauren Carter

Freelance Writer

Hello and welcome to my website!

I'm a Boston-based freelance writer with a bachelor's degree in English and several years of experience writing for newspapers, magazines, journals, online publications and corporate clients.

I cover music and entertainment for the Boston Herald and contribute features, columns and entertainment pieces to the Sun Chronicle.
My work has also appeared in the Boston Phoenix, XXLMag.com, SOHH.com, BallerStatus.com, BlackPower.com, New England Patriots GameDay, the Bay State Banner, InMotion Magazine, 5Star Magazine, Boston Live Magazine and TheBridge Journal.

I have conducted hundreds of interviews as a journalist, many with high-profile entertainers including Stevie Nicks, Bill Cosby, Jay Leno, Janet Jackson, Nas, 50 Cent, T.I., Ice Cube, Alicia Keys, Wyclef Jean, Usher, Nelly Furtado, Jamie Foxx, Al Green and Patti LaBelle.

In June of 2009 I was a guest on WNYC's music talk show "Soundcheck" to discuss *hot* summer songs.

My essay about race and identity titled "Isn't Watermelon Delicious?" was recently published in the eighth edition of America Now, a writing textbook for college freshmen.

In addition to being a certified music junkie and chronicling some of this generation's most prominent artists and public figures, I have written about an array of less "glamorous" -- but no less significant -- subjects, from chess clubs, church drives and children battling cancer to small towns facing budget woes and young adults serving in the Peace Corps.

I have also provided writing and PR consulting services to a number of corporate clients and musicians.

Though I have begun to specialize in music and related fields, I pride myself on being able to write well on any topic. I consider no assignment unimportant and give my full attention to every subject with the purpose of writing an informative, entertaining and accurate piece.

Ultimately, I consider it a privilege and honor to be able to do what I love for a living!
